Contemplating the Collection: Guided Meditation for MACBA Friends | Activity
Amelia Melo is the creator of Mysteria, a program of artistic contemplation and visual meditation through art in museums, scientifically validated by the paper “The Beauty of Silence”, published in the journal Art & Perception (2022) and registered with the Catalan government.
With more than nine years of experience, she works regularly with the Museo Nacional de Escultura in Valladolid and the Museu Can Framis run by the Fundació Vila Casas, and has also worked with other museums, including that of the University of Navarre, and at cultural venues exploring the relationship between art, health and interiority.
She has a master’s degree in Meditation, Relaxation and Mindfulness from the University of Barcelona, with training in transpersonal meditation, transpersonal therapy in art, hatha yoga, therapeutic yoga and yoga for trauma.
Her practice situates the work of art at the threshold for direct experience. A space in which to stop thinking or analyzing and simply be. A chance to contemplate and contemplate oneself. A moment in which seeing is silenced and transformed, and the work of art, above and beyond its form, becomes a gateway to the essential.
