Last October 30 was celebrated the 2nd Arts in Education Forum. The initiative, promoted by the CoNCA, aims to guarantee the recognition and promotion of the arts in the educational system. This year’s edition was attended by more than 400 professionals, both from the education and culture sectors and from the institutional field, and the Carulla Foundation he has been a member of the governing council, coordinating body of the Forum.
Although the first edition of this forum (held in April 2022) resulted in a letter of recommendation addressed to the institutions, this year’s edition has served to develop action plans in several blocks. Six reflection groups have been scheduled to update and specify the Arts and Education Charter from two years ago.
Starting from this collective work, the participants of the Forum have defined a series of general conclusions intended for the development of a national plan. The main point is the importance of modifying the educational system so that it contemplates, at its core, the citizen’s right to education in the arts. This change of model, driven by public institutions, must be supported by the link between educational centers and artists and must count on the collaboration of local administrations. Finally, the importance ofupdate the training of teachers and professors so that the arts form a fundamental part of it. The CoNCA undertakes to convey the conclusions and specific actions proposed by the Forum to the Government of the Generalitat.
One of the fundamental pillars of the Carulla Foundation is thepromotion of arts and culture as tools for social transformation. In the emotions that arise from any cultural event there is a high potential to promote effective social change. That is why, with the conviction that great changes are born in classrooms, the Foundation also acts at the crossroads between the arts and education. The second edition of the Forum shows the commitment of teachers, educators and artists to this same cause. And not only that: with an open channel to national institutions, the creation of a national plan for Arts and Education is an increasingly real possibility. In the words of the director of the Terra Museum and member of the governing council of the Forum, Gemma Carbó: “all the elements are on the table, they just need to be ordered and applied properly”.
