Meet Marta and delve into the wonders of La Puça

Marta is from Madrid, but has been living in Barcelona for more than 18 years. His dream was to live near the sea, and he achieved it. For the Flea Market Barcelona team it is a pleasure to have paradistas like her, who make our “usual” vintage markets look like never before 🙂

Q: How did you get started with your brand?

A: In 2012 I started participating in markets to sell my own clothes (I had a lot of things that I didn’t use and they were in perfect condition) and it coincided with a difficult work period along with a personal need to change careers. What started as a hobby gradually became my new way of life. I started selling what I didn’t want from my own closet, then second-hand clothes that I found searching in markets in Barcelona and on my leisure trips through Europe and Asia, and it also happened that I found old stocks of vintage clothing from people who were liquidating their businesses. I decided to set up my new brand, open my website and little by little everything became formal, I already had my new one!!

Q: What markets do you usually participate in?

A: I participate monthly in Palo Alto, and until they retired it in the Flea and Fleadonia, in addition to all the specific markets that the Flea organizes. Since the Barcelona City Council banned the Flea and Fleadonia markets at the Santa Madrona portal and Plaza Salvador Seguí, practically all the open-air markets in the city have ended, which led us all to place events in private spaceswith the extra cost that this entails, with the need to charge an entrance fee, many fewer stops and many fewer visitors. There are few events that can continue to be held on public roads, with free admission and with a wide variety of parade-goers since then. One of them is Puça de Clot.

Q: What do you like most about working at La Puça?

A: The area is very neighborhood, which makes a lot of local people come. In addition, it is quite well connected, it can be easily reached from the Clot metro stop (red and purple line), which allows people from all over Barcelona and tourists to come. Right next door there are quite a few bars to make vermouth or have an aperitif, like my beloved Bodega Sopena, which makes the place perfect for spending a Sunday morning of street markets and vermouth.
On the other hand, with this type of events, it is in some way favored that lesser-known neighborhoods of Barcelona such as Sagrera, El Clot or Sant Martí can be made known by Barcelona residents and tourists to the city.

Q: Any other stops you would like to highlight?

A: There are many interesting stops that usually participate in the Puça del Clot, we have all been companions for many years and many of us have created true bonds of friendship. Highlighting any stop is difficult, but suddenly, I can highlight Julia and Carlos with their lamps, vases, paintings, bags, ornaments, and millions of curious objects from all possible periods, Antique linen furrier of the city, with its stall full of jackets and leather garments or Ingrid from Lolitas Vintage with its beautiful selection of clothing from the 80s and 90s.

La Puça del Clot-Aragó is one of the only second-hand markets that survives Pla Endreça

Since the end of El Flea’s activities in the Raval neighborhood was announced to us at the beginning of the year, we have kept our heads high thanks to markets like La Puça that allow us to keep the community active and vintage alive.

The panorama of the measures taken by Barcelona City Council continues to be bleak and desperate for all of us who are part of Flea Market Barcelona. Our greatest wish is to reverse the situation and be able to return to doing what we are passionate about and have been doing for more than 12 years.
