TRIBUTE TO JOAN BROSSA AT THE GUADALAJARA INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR – Fundació Joan Brossa


This year’s edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) welcomes Barcelona as the city of honor. Curated by Anna Guitart, the Catalan city program aims to bring Barcelona’s literary fabric to the Mexican city and, at the same time, reclaim its key figures who have already disappeared: Montserrat Roig, Carmen Balcells, Jacinto Verdaguer, Manuel Vazquez Montalbán, Ana María Matute, Mercè Rodoreda i Joan Brossa.

In this context, the Tribute to Joan Brossa was held last December 5 Poetry, politics and non-conformism with the interventions of the president of the Joan Brossa Foundation Vincent Altaión; the director of Visual and Textual Arts of the Joan Brossa Foundation Maria Canelles; the poet and actress Juana Doloresand the artist Mercè Galí.

Joan Brossa is also honored in the installation Three ways to enter: Rodoreda, Verdaguer, Brossa. A trilogy of Cabosanroque which can be seen until March 1 at the Museo Cabañas de Guadalajara. The work is made up of three scenic-sound installations that approach three key figures of Catalan literature from the contemporaneity through sound, voice and objects specific to each of the three literary universes.

In addition, as part of this invitation, the city of Barcelona gave the city of Guadalajara a copy of the visual poem Free Books by Joan Brossa, who has been a very present image at the FIL.
