The Faberllull Residence is the headquarters of the First Meeting of the International Associations of Catalanisticwhich will take place from 16 to 19 September. Representatives of theAnglo-Catalan Society (United Kingdom and Ireland), theAssociation Française des Catalanists (France), l ‘Associazione Italiana di Studi Catalani (Italy), the Deutscher Katalanistenverband (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) and the North American Catalan Society (United States and Canada). They will also be thereInternational Association of Catalan Language and Literature (Aillc), l ‘Association of Young Researchers in Catalan Language and Literature (Ajillc) and the Catalan Education and Research Society as a Foreign Language (Sercle).
During their stay in Olot, participants will explore the role of associations as articulatory and invigorating entities of Catalan in their territories or in their field of specialty. They will also share projects and analyze the main challenges in front of humanistic disciplines and modern languages, with the aim of formulating shared strategies between associations and the Institut Ramon Llull, facing the Construction of an international network of researchers in Catalan. Finally, they will delve into their coordination mechanisms and will emerge new opportunities for collaboration with each other and with the Ramon Llull Institute, in order to strengthen and ensure the continuity of Catalan studies globally.
Program of Activities
The stay will begin on Tuesday, September 16 in the afternoon, with examples of good practices by the different associations and with a talk Teresa CabréPresident of l‘Institut d’Estudis Catalans.
On Wednesday he will discuss the position of Catalan studies in the organization of the fields of knowledge in the different university systems. It will also be in depth about the relationship of Catalan -language associations with the great disciplinary international associations.
On Thursday morning, the working sessions will revolve around the accompaniment to research and the professionalization of students. In addition, it will be the turn to treat what would be the best way these associations coordinated with the Institut Ramon Llull.
The participants will star in an event open to the public on Thursday at 7pm, at the headquarters ofÒmnium Garrotxain Olot. In an open dialogue with the public, they will reflect on the dangers and opportunities of Catalan in the world, as the Catalan language is seen from other countries or what role should Catalan play in a globalized world.
The meeting will end on Friday morning with several working sessions at the Institut Ramon Llull headquarters in Barcelona. Will intervene Laura SantamariaVice -Rector for Culture and Language Policy. In addition, participants will discuss the flows and interactions of researchers and teachers inside and outside the linguistic domain. At the end, the conclusions of the meeting will be read.
The Catalanistic Associations
International Catalanistic Associations are a key piece in the articulation of this discipline abroad. Created from the 1950’s, with the founding of the Anglo-Catalan Society, and currently present in the United Kingdom and Ireland, France, the United States and Canada, Italy and Germany, Austria and Switzerland, these entities are a key agent in the revitalization of Catalan studies in different countries. Its congresses or colloquiums provide a meeting place for specialists, who can share their research on the language, literature, arts, culture and society in the Catalan language territories. The meetings are also a space for socialization for novice students and researchers, which in this way join the academic community of Catalan. The magazines and collections of books edited by associations play a key role in disseminating the results of the research. In addition to ensuring the health of the discipline in each territory and of relating to the academic authorities of each country, the associations of Catalanistic are the interlocutor recognized by the Institut Ramon Llull (the official body in charge of the external projection of the Catalan language and culture in the university field), which supports its activities.
