New protocol for addressing discrimination and violence


The Coòpolis Association has approved the new Protocol for the prevention, detection, addressing, monitoring and reparation of situations of sexist, sexual, LGBTIQA+-phobic and racist discrimination or violence, a tool that reinforces the entity’s commitment to the construction of safe, respectful and discrimination-free spaces.

The document establishes the action framework to prevent, identify and respond to possible situations of violence or discrimination that can occur in the different spaces of participation, work and relationship linked to the association. The protocol focuses on the care of peoplethe guarantee of rights and the collective responsibility in the construction of a feminist, anti-racist organization committed to diversity.

The document has been prepared by a working group created specifically with this objective and has been approved by the assembly as a whole of the Coòpolis Association.

A tool to prevent and act

The protocol has a clear preventive intent. Beyond defining the mechanisms of action in situations of discrimination or violence, it wants to contribute to generating one organizational culture based on respect, co-responsibility and zero tolerance for any form of rights violation.
Likewise, it establishes clear circuits of communication and action, defines the different roles and responsibilities involved and incorporates a reparative perspective that emphasizes the accompaniment of the affected people and the transformation of dynamics that can generate these situations.

A structural look at violence

The protocol starts from the recognition that the violence sexist, sexist, LGBTIQA+-phobic and racist they are not isolated eventsbut they are registered in social, cultural, economic and political structures that generate and perpetuate inequalities. In this sense, it assumes a view that understands violence as a expressions of a cisheteropatriarchal and colonial system which produces exclusions, discriminations and violations of rights.

From this perspective, the protocol places at the center the people who suffer violence and the effective guarantee of their rights, recognizing the unequal distribution of privileges and opportunities which runs through our society and which can also be reproduced in organizational spaces.

A collective process aligned with the values ​​of Coòpolis

The development of the protocol is part of Coòpolis’ commitment to the Social and Solidarity Economy, feminism, anti-racism and the defense of diversity. The document is the result of a process of reflection and internal work aimed at providing the organization with tools that allow ensure fairer, more inclusive and safer participation environments.

With this approval, Coòpolis takes another step in consolidating an organizational culture consistent with values that it promotes in all its projects and activities, understanding that the prevention of violence and discrimination is a shared responsibility that it requires commitment, resources and concrete tools.

The protocol will be available on the website for consultation by all people and will become a reference for action in the face of any situation that may affect coexistence, participation or the well-being of the Coòpolis community.
