La Mercè at MACBA Year Thirty | Activity
Desire, persistence, utopia, aperture, debate, voices. At MACBA, this will be a special La Mèrce, the 30-year La Mercè. When we celebrated our 30th anniversary last November with a huge bash, we were so inspired by 30 key concepts that have accompanied us all these months.
We recognize ourselves in them, they identify us, nourishing us and pushing us on. Inspired by this constellation of words, we have prepared a party for everyone. An event that will be diverse, pluralistic, intense and effusive, the way Barcelona’s main festival should be. With a free, open-door day from 10 am to 8 pmand the museum chock full of activities for all kinds of visitors and different moods, featuring exhibitions that have something to say, special activities, books at a discount and creative tapas. We’re having a party: it’s La Mercè!
Do not miss the exhibition Like a Dance of Starlings. MACBA Collection: Thirty Years and Infinite Ways of Being. This is one of your last chances to see the exhibition before it closes, with works from the collection that have never been shown before. These will also be the final days of the exhibitions Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme. Prisoners of Love: Until the Sun of Freedomfocused on the lives of Palestinian prisoners and Anna Moreno The Third Twista reflection on temporality through utopian architecture. This is also your chance to enjoy the installation Spiral of Time – Plaça dels Àngels – MACBAan audio file created by Edwin van der Heide. And it will also be the moment to warm up for the upcoming exhibition of Aurelia Muñozto be held on the occasion of the centenary of her birth, and see a preview that highlights an internationally recognized artist capable of blurring boundaries between disciplines, as exemplified by the installation Birds-Kites.
On Thursday 24 Septemberwe share the city’s main festival with you. Celebrated on the street and in the squares, it is a time for friendship, conversation and museums. For La Mercè, come to El Raval: that is where you’ll find us!
MACBA Thirty
We celebrate Year Thirty of an infinite MACBA that projects the future as a space for review and possibility: of taking up what was left unfinished, updating what needs it and projecting anew everything that can still be transformed.
