Baix Llobregat is committed to conscious consumption thanks to the promotion of cooperatives – Ateneu
At a time when environmental and social anxieties often become more concerned, the Baix Llobregat is consolidated as one of the reference poles in conscious consumption in Catalonia. One of the generators of this change is consumer cooperatives, which offer sustainable, fair and proximity alternatives to the usual offer.
From Sant Boi to Cornellà, through municipalities such as El Prat, Sant Feliu or Esplugues, cooperative initiatives are gaining momentum and weaving a common support network between local producers and compromised consumers. Cooperatives like The Sant Boi Colmena or Coopverd del Prat They have managed to involve hundreds of families who opt for organic, seasonal eating and with a positive impact on the territory.
“The cooperative is not just a store. It is a space for social transformation. We bet on products that respect people and the planet,” says Marta Valls, founding partner ofThe cooperative pantry. “What we do here is to re-appropriate consumption, to stop being only buyers to become an active part of a common project.”
This model is also having a multiplier effect: it promotes co -operatives between small producers, creates dignified occupation and helps to revitalize the local economy. In addition, many of these cooperatives organize workshops, talks and community activities that strengthen critical awareness and link with the territory.
Local administrations, on the other hand, begin to recognize this added value and have begun specific support lines, such as subsidies or access to municipal spaces, to facilitate the expansion of co -operatives.
In a world marked by the climate crisis and the rise of individualism, the Baix Llobregat cooperatives show that another way of consuming – and living – is not only possible, but it is already underway.
