‘Australia’, the success of Israel Solà, returns to Espai Texas
Australiathe work written and directed by Israel Solareturns to the Texas Theater billboard. The show offers the public a road trip which addresses a great dilemma: to have, or not to have, offspring. Ester Cort, Meritxell Huertas and Carme Poll star in this play that reflects on family ties based on the story of three sisters: Elena and Mercè, who live in Barcelona, and Laia, who lives in Australia. The protagonists meet again when Laia asks Elena if she would give her an egg in order to beget a child with her husband (played by the actor Brian Lehane).
The show, with doses of humor and a very direct and cinematic language, starts from the experience of one person from the artistic team and also deals with the fears, pressures, desires and frustrations generated by motherhood . In a world where the concept of family evolves very quickly, Australia one wonders what exactly this word means. Is the family a given or can it be chosen? Is family blood or is it bond? “Women in our thirties receive strong pressure to have children and if we don’t have any, we even have to justify ourselves”, explains Ester Cort: “Having children must be a magnificent experience, but you must also respect the people who don’t want to have it by their own decision”. “When you don’t have children, it seems that when you grow up you won’t have a family anymore, and we always say that friends are our chosen family”, comments Israel Solà, and adds: “With this text I face the idea of what it means not having children, but also in how loneliness is faced when you get older”.
The work, successfully premiered in Flyhard Room undertake the second successful season at the theater of the ETexas space next to another success Talking is of no use of Bob Pop.
