A game of pétanque to talk about the world

After selling out last season and receiving high praise from critics, audiences and the press, Weltschmerz (working title) returns to the Joan Brossa Foundation’s Free Arts Center from February 26 in a limited series of functions.

The project of Ferran Dordal Lalueza it starts from the German romantic concept Weltschmerz —the “pain of the world”— to unfold a reflection on precariousness, uncertainty and the spirit of the times. It does so with a hybrid device that combines text and a real bocce game on stage.

They participate on stage Albert Pérez Hidalgo, Clara Aguilar, Marc Salicrú and Dordal himself, who turn the practice of this sport into a structural element of the assembly. For about an hour and a half, the performers play while the text unfolds in different formats from voiceover to projection. A real game between word and action.

In the play, Dordal constructs a piece that plays with self-fiction without fully embracing it and that questions the very concept of “text theater”. The installation mixes cultural references, reflections on the creation and management of aid, sentimental life and precariousness in the cultural sector.

Weltschmerz (working title) is registered in the line of work that Ferran Dordal Lalueza has developed in recent years, after projects like Reiseführer, Murder of a photographer or Sum Varnish [Algunes consideracions intempestives sobre Verdaguer]in which he explored unconventional stage formats and hybrid devices.
