Promoted by the Circle of Migrations and Anti-Racist Economy of Coòpolis, the Fair of ESS Migrant and Divers arrives this year in its seventh edition consolidated as a point of reference for economic, community and cooperative initiatives led by migrants and racialized people.

The day will take place on October 10 in Plaça de Catalunya in Barcelonaand will once again be a space to share experiences, generate alliances, give visibility to transformative projects and continue building a Social and Solidarity Economy committed to global justice and anti-racism.

No excuses: now it’s time to redistribute power

The motto of this edition is forceful: “No excuses! Regularization is the minimum, now it’s time to redistribute power.”

In a context marked by the extraordinary regularization of migrants and by years of claims by migrant movements, the Fair wants to focus on a challenge that remains pending: guarantee real access to rights, opportunities and decision-making spaces for migrant and racialized people.

Administrative regularization is only a first step. The great challenge is to transform the economic and social structures that continue to reproduce inequalities. This also implies questioning the Social and Solidarity Economy and, especially, the cooperatives and entities that make it up. If we want to build a truly transformative economy, we must assume the responsibility of generating decent employment, create work itineraries and facilitate the access of regularized people to spaces for participation, governance and decision-making.

Redistributing power means going beyond symbolic inclusion. It means opening doors, sharing resources and ensure that migrant and racialized people are protagonists in the construction of economic and community futures that we defend

A space to make migrant and diverse economies visible

The Migrant and Diverse ESS Fair is Coòpolis’ commitment to recognizing the transformative potential of initiatives driven by migrant and racialized people.

This seventh edition also wants to be a space to reflect collectively on the challenges that arise after regularization. Beyond access to administrative rights, the Fair proposes how strengthen economic, social and community alternatives that generate autonomy, guarantee rights and contribute to sustaining the lives of migrant and racialized people.

The debate also emphasizes the need to consolidate and project the economic, cooperative, community and popular initiatives historically driven by migrant and racialized people, often without the necessary recognition or institutional support. The Fair claims the importance of creating the conditions so that these projects can grow, generate impact and participate as full-fledged actors in the construction of a plural, democratic and anti-racist social and solidarity economy.
