Screening of the film “En construcción”, by José Luis Guerín, with presentation of the Young Programmers Moving Cinema.

About the movie

At the beginning of this millennium, José Luis Guerin films the transformation process of the urban landscape of the Raval during the construction of a block of flats.

Neighbors, workers, immigrants and future home buyers parade through this fundamental work of contemporary European cinema. Guerín rediscovers the landscape with a camera that observes with the patience of an archaeologist, and makes us witnesses of the everyday life of the people of the neighborhood respecting their exceptional dialogues full of life.

Jose Luis Guerin is one of the reference authors of contemporary Spanish cinema. In each of his films – fiction, documentaries, essays, correspondence, diaries – he investigates and reflects on cinema, proposing a new way of exploring it.

It is also the case ofunder constructiona film that, accompanying the course of construction of a building, portrays people, trades, relationships, a neighborhood, a neighborhood, an era. It is Barcelona, and it is at the same time many neighborhoods of so many other European cities: the layers of time, the precarious balance between the inhabitants and their histories and the transformations and longings for renewal and change that, in their passage, displace them.
