Alternative and Toned Processes in Brown Van Dyke

Description
This intensive 4-hour workshop invites you to explore the photographic process Van Dyke Brownan artisanal technique that combines UV light and photosensitive salts to produce images in deep brown tones. Throughout the day, you will learn to prepare emulsions, emulsify papers, expose with different light sources, develop and fix your images. In addition, you will experiment with creative intonations and waxing techniques to give the final finish to your copies. The goal is for each participant to make between 4 and 6 prints in A5 format, some toned and ready to keep.
Workshop steps
- Introduction and security: chemical fundamentals and precautions.
- Formulation and emulsification: preparation of the emulsion and application on paper.
- Digital negatives: demo of preparing files and curves in Photoshop.
- UV exposure: use of sunlight and lamps, with time guide according to conditions.
- Revealed and fixed: washing, clarification and stabilization of the image.
- intoned: practices with selenium and gold.
- Waxed: traditional techniques and vegan options for a protective finish.
Materials to be brought by the Participants
Participants must bring digital negatives printed on transparent acetates and, if they wish, different types and qualities of papers to compare their materiality.
WATERCOLOR OR SIMILAR TYPE PAPER IS RECOMMENDED, OR AT LEAST 190 g/m²
