Ragazzo | Gencat Cultural Agenda
Synopsis
Europe, summer of 2001. The city of Ragazzo has been experiencing the largest social rights restriction that the continent has experienced since World War II: the borders are closed, the Schengen treaty is suspended, demonstrations and meetings in some parts of the city are prohibited, it is forbidden to extend clothes to the balconies. Arrests. Identifications. 30,000 police patrol the streets and do not allow the entrance to the blonde area, the place where the G8 world leaders are making a summit.
RagazzoIn spite of everything, it lives in the summer of the city: they have recently squeezed with friends a cozy space that they have conditioned as a house, it is on vacation, it has time to listen to music, read, cook, fall in love … and to participate in the World Social Forum that has also been installed in the city and where more than half a million people discuss what this “ other possible world ” would look like, which for some years have imagined as an alternative to globalization. Its destination will be marked when it makes the decision to stay in the column of disobedient, which has proposed a peaceful action of civil disobedience: violating the confinement of the blonde area.
What to do before the threat? Does a government have to be legitimized to shield to decide? Who (and for what) does violence use? What is impunity? Another world is possible?
A cry for life, the dignification of personal stories, the vindication of collective memory and history that the owners of the world will never write for us.
Dedicated to the memory of Carlo Giuliani, killed in Genoa on July 20, 2001.
