03/03 – 18.30h. [Fototertúlia] “Emerging technologies in the identification of photographs”

During this social gathering, Dr. Raquel Freixas will present us with an innovative and poorly studied area of research: the application of non -invasive analysis techniques for the study and characterization of impressions to bromol and transported bromol. Introduced at the beginning of the 20th century, these techniques were extremely popular with pictorialist photographers due to their ability to manipulate the image, allowing the creation of impressions of extraordinary beauty. In the Catalan context, renowned photographers such as Dr. Joaquim Pla Janini, Miquel Renom, Claudi Carbonell or Josep Maria Casals i Ariet, among others. During the talk, we will break down and explore, step by step, the historical processes of bromoli and bromol transported. In addition, we will discuss how the pioneering use of techniques such as infrared spectroscopy by Fourier (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, and X -ray fluorescence (FRX) can contribute to the identification and preservation of these photographic works , contributing new perspectives on its composition and its creation process.
