This weekend at @switchpocketclub_bcn 💎💎 American DJ and producer Kim Anh has been a staple of the queer dance music underground for over a decade. Born in the South as the first generation daughter of an immigrant, she’s gone on to make an indelible impact on the nightlife scenes she’s been a part of in Los Angeles and New York, where she currently splits her time between the West Village and the Hudson Valley. The founder of groundbreaking queer parties like Booby Trap! and Tendencies, Kim Anh helped underline the queer and POC history of dance music, bringing it back to its roots- something she champions with everything she does. Her production and songwriting blends classic house and disco with a contemporary sensibility, with catchy hooks and edgy, sensual lyrics, described by DJ Mag as “lucid and absorbing, and conveying an assertion and power.” She’s been a top 10 Beatport artist with features in Mix Mag (UK & Asia), DJ Mag, Resident Advisor and LA Weekly to name a few. More recently, Kim Anh started her own Can U Not Talk Records label, and has also been featured on labels like Live At Robert Johnson, Afro Acid and International Deejay Gigolo Records. She’s collaborated with artists from across the electronic music spectrum such as Roy Davis. Jr, Massimiliano Pagliara, Peaches and Cerrone. Kim Anh has composed original score for film and runway and serves as consulting Global Music Supervisor at Calvin Klein. She’s also something of an activist and community organizer, working with the Los Angeles LGBT Center, Harvey Milk Foundation and GLAAD, ultimately helping fundraise over one million dollars by highlighting the connection between queer culture and nightlife, something that remains in her practice as a recording artist, DJ, producer and composer.
