A campaign with an identity: ReCooperem Barcelona

This anniversary is not just an anniversary; is one political and social reaffirmation. With the ‘ReCooperem Barcelona, 10 years of cooperating with the city’ campaign, we want to continue projecting the Ateneo’s identity throughout the neighbourhoods. We want Barcelona to be a city for working people, a city to be lived in a city that beats to the rhythm of cooperativism.

During these ten years, Coòpolis has consolidated itself as a node of knowledge and support, uniting entities, projects and people looking for an economic model that does not suffocate them. We have shown, from evidence and emotion, that another economy is possible and necessary.

The poster: memory and cooperative symbolism

The anniversary poster, designed by La Pera Comunicació, is inspired by an illustration from July 1930, the work of Lluís Ardiaca, a young amateur cooperativist closely linked to the Federation of Cooperatives, the Socialist Union of Catalonia and the Union of Robbers. Ardiaca was secretary of the Cooperation Service of the Generalitat within the Department of Agriculture and Economy, and during the Civil War he became director general of Agriculture under the ministry of Josep Calvet.

The original illustration responds to a workmanlike art deco style with influences from Soviet constructivism. It highlights the figure of the woman as an allegory of cooperation, with an oval face and no iris, and an iridescent rainbow as a symbol of cooperation. Flags evoke internationalism. In the original illustration you can read on the buildings in Russian references to cooperatives and cooperative warehouses, in clear allusion to Soviet cooperative economic planning.

Looking ahead to the next 10 years

Our challenge now is to become even more relevant. In the next decade, Coòpolis must continue to be an engine that activates initiatives and influences public policies to be a key part of a resilient and transformative system. We are an essential project because we are useful, alive and rooted in the territory. Come celebrate 10 years of struggle, cooperation and life!
