The successful musical ‘Guillermotta’ returns to the billboard
Guillermotta return to the theatrical billboard. The show premiered at the Sala Àtrium in 2021 returns to El Maldà. .
Guillermotta is a very particular alter ego of the Guillermina Mottaembodied by the actor and singer Jordi Vidalwhich interprets some of the essential themes of the Barcelona artist’s career. “Guillermina Motta is, for me, the most complete, most genuine artist this country has given”, explains the actor: “Surely, a figure like her, in other countries would be more recognized and would have more musicals”.
Written and directed by Jordi Prat and Coll, Guillermotta it is an intimate staged concert where there will be no shortage of irony, sensitivity, commitment or poetry that gave so much character to this artist’s performances. “We put on the wig to be her, to become male-eating stars and also elegant singers”, says Prat i Coll: “We did it because we love her music, the lyrics that move this music and above all the soul that united them”. The veteran artist, who retired from social life in 2002 and is little given to tributes, has seen the show twice and gave her ‘blessing’.
Cornudella, Prat and Coll i Vidal, the three Jordis of ‘Guillermota’
On stage, the actor Jordi Vidal is accompanied by the piano of Jordi Cornudellawho also takes on the musical direction, to make an intimate portrait of this composer, lyricist, adapter or coupletist who, apart from popularizing themes like lily panther or the very famous song stir girlhas sung songs from the chanson française or has set poems by Salvat-Papasseit, Carner or Sagarra to music. “Despite the more frivolous view we have of her during the 80s, Guillermina has a deeper part that connects with feelings, and we also wanted to transfer that to the show”, explains Vidal, who this year received the Critic’s Award for Best Musical Actor for this same show. “It’s a show made with a lot of love and above all with a lot of respect for the repertoire of an extraordinary woman”, adds the director: “A woman who turned frivolity into anecdote and sadness into a category, who has been able to navigate this country bringing intelligence, taste, sarcasm, irony and above all coherence and love for a whole cultural heritage”.

with GuillermottaVidal closes a trilogy that began in 2005 with a montage dedicated to Ovid Montllor and in 2011 with a tribute to Jacques Breland now it’s Guillermina Motta’s turn, a close friend of the former and who sang in Catalan many of the latter’s songs.
