The story of the worst singer in the world comes to Poliorama

The Poliorama Theater pays tribute, from November 7, to the fascinating career of an eccentric New York millionaire from the 1940s known as “the worst singer in the world”with the release of Glorious! The True Story of Florence Foster Jenkins.

A true story turned into a comedy

Glorious! narrates the trajectory of a woman who defied all logic to defend her right to dream. Despite his absolute lack of singing talent, Florence Foster Jenkins invested his fortune in realizing his musical delusion, which would culminate in a sold-out concert at the Carnegie Hall. Far from being ridiculed, her dedication and authenticity made her a true phenomenon of the time.

The text, written by the English playwright Peter Quiltercontrasts Florence’s blind faith and love of music with her friends’ tender maneuverings to keep her from getting discouraged. This production, directed by Paco Mirhas a cast made up of Marta Ribera, Ramon January i Santi Millánaccompanied byAnnabel Totusaus, Meritxell Duró i Eva Cartaña.

“Glorious! it’s about the freedom to dream, even when everyone says you can’t”

“The most fascinating of Glorious! it’s about the freedom to dream, even when everyone says you can’t. Florence is not a caricature, she is a woman who blindly believes in herself”, explains the director, while revealing what the great challenge of the editing was: “The most complicated thing was getting Marta Ribera out of tune”. The actress confesses, despite this, that she is happy with this character: “She is an eccentric and vital woman, with a desire to eat the world that only awakens tenderness in me”.

On the other hand, Ramon Januarywho debuts as an actor in text theater in the role of the pianist Cosme McMoonrecognizes that her character and the story of Florence “have a humanity that goes far beyond the world of opera”. The protagonist triangle is completed with Santi Millán in the role of St Clairthe protagonist’s charming lover and accomplice: “It’s a very funny show. Our protagonist lives in a parallel reality and this causes delirious situations that will make the audience laugh a lot. You’ll see, it’s a must-see.”
