The Sistahs journey began in Barcelona, at Nau Ivanow, and continued in Davvvi – Center for Performing Arts (Hammerfest, Norway), before closing in Germany. Each residence has been, they explain, a stage of transformation: “ Because we were very aware that we were in a process of creation, we were as sponges. The atmosphere of each space, as well as our bond and the people with whom we have been crucial, modified what we were doing, ” they say.
Stutterthe piece that has gone on over six weeks of residence, was based on three key notions: the pleasure, the strangeness and the pain in the body of the black woman. The research has combined historical references – such as J. Marion Sims -free medical experiments on enslaved black women – with contemporary experiences. With this, they have wanted to denounce systematic violence, but also to celebrate sexuality and creativity from shared affection and tenderness.

“Generating a space that joins five black women to create is a revolutionary act,” says Denisse, a member of the collective. The process has been a commitment to the dislike and recognition of the group’s multiple intelligences: “To enter the room with a closed text is not the same as working from the process and giving us all space to bring, from play and freedom.”
The experience has also been deeply human. “It started out as a contact, but it has ended up living with the family,” they say. Now, the collective is at the turning point of “What’s coming after?” With a lot of accumulated material and the desire to give continuity to Stutterclaim supports to produce the work and share it with the public. “We want to produce it, not to die here. We have gestured something very powerful in Moving Identities“.
