The Open Kitchen with the Estampa Studio and Marina Monsonís | Activity
Reflection on the possibility of creating an archive that represents what The MACBA Kitchen has been over the past seven years leads us to question hegemonic archival practices. In The Kitchen, each body is a repository of knowledge transmitted through the senses and through oral and gestural memory.
Based on this possibility and with the help of the Estampa collective, we present a cartography constructed together with the voices and experiences of the community that gave life to this space. For this new creation, Estampa took inspiration from a long line of cartographies devoted to questioning the function of maps as producers of dominant truths. The result is a view that traces the affective and material geographies of The Kitchen.
We thought it necessary to explain that The Kitchen is fed tumultuously from the inside out and from the outside in, and that as a receiver of individual and community learnings it has been the seed of projects and groups that share principles and pedagogies beyond our stoves.
We want to socialize part of our culinary memory – made up of the web of images, alliances, pedagogical strategies, concepts, synergies and projects we have worked with – out of gratitude and the desire to collaborate in a change in food based on criteria of social and climate justice. We do this while recognizing the limitations, tensions, conflicts and difficulties this involves, but also the joy, beauty and ability to nourish.
As usual, we also invite you to have an afternoon snack with us.
