Josep Maria Ruera i Pinart (Barcelona, 1900 – Granollers, 1988), performer, director, educator and composer, made music his trade. Its profession was conditioned by the historical avatars of the 20th century, especially the Civil War, and by a personal situation strongly rooted in family values.
The musician is very dear in Granollers, where he lived most of his life. Both his family and musicians and institutions are dedicated to him by numerous tributes, and they are interested in alive the interest in interpreting and spreading their music. However, the perception is that Josep Maria Ruera could have had a wider projection everywhere if his career had developed in another historical moment.
The work of the composer, who cultivated genres, formations and various musical scenarios, covers religious music to symphonic and chamber music, to dance music and, in particular, numerous sardanas.
In the year we commemorate the 125th anniversary of the birth of the composer, the Music Section of the Library of Catalonia, preserving its collection, wants to highlight documents that are evidence of their projection beyond Granollers. We invite you to find these traces in the documentation that testifies to the interest and reception of the work and the continuity of his musical vision.
