The ESS as a tool for cultural democratization – Ateneo

Culture is a right and a tool of social cohesion. However, public policies and circuits of cultural production and consumption have often been conditioned by commercialization, concentration in large cities and the difficulty of access by vulnerability groups.

In the face of this scenario, the social and solidarity economy offers an alternative cultural model, where culture becomes a tool for social transformation. Cultural production and dissemination cooperatives, community art projects, cooperative festivals and collective creation spaces allow access to access and participation.

It Circle of Innovation and Culture of the Ateneu Cooperativa It promotes this type of projects in the Baix Llobregat, with the aim of making culture visible as a fundamental part of the ESS. Initiatives that accompany not only employment, but also social cohesion, a sense of community and critical reflection.

Promoting culture from cooperative models allows citizens to approach it, generate new collective imaginaries and emphasize diversity, inclusion and shared creativity.
