The Band in La Mercè. Letters in the wind


·On ​​the occasion of Diada de la Mercè, Plaça Mayor de Nou Barris becomes the epicenter of Catalan music with the Lettres al vent festival. Under the direction of José R. Pascual-Vilaplana, the Barcelona Municipal Band will perform pieces from the classical repertoire and contemporary creations. So, for example, the Sardana of the Reapers by Bernat Vivancos, which updates the national dance with modern tones, can be heard for the first time in its adaptation for band. will follow fur suite, recent work by Marc Migó from Barcelona, ​​one of the most requested young composers on the national and international circuit.

Among the great scores in the band repertoire, the symphonic poem stands out For the blue lily flower by Joaquín Rodrigo, inspired by a Valencian legend, which opens with a solemn fanfare and unfolds a writing rich in contrasts, narrative episodes and broad orchestral developments. In tribute to Pau Casals, it will also play Peace, Peace, so Sing the Birds, work by Yasuhide Ito. Precisely, the sardana will be heard from the Catalan composer Sant Martí del Canigóand of his brother Enric la sardana heroiccomposed more than two decades earlier.
