Study on inclusivity in the energy sector

In recent years, the policies of promoting the Energy communities They have aroused a lot of interest, and we have seen different neighborhoods in the city have appeared to create them. Unfortunately, not all have been able to move forward.

From Coópolis we have driven a Study to analyze energy communities with a look focused on diversity and intersectionality. From this research arises The report we will present on May 27 at the BLOC4BCN: ‘Diversity in energy communities in Barcelona: diagnosis and challenges’.

One of the main conclusions that the report arrives is that Participation in these initiatives is not inclusive enoughand there are diverse obstacles that prevent part of the city’s neighbors from being part of the communities and benefit from the collective project.

Despite its transformative potential, the document states that Diversity and intersectionality are still unpaid issues Within these initiatives, often relegated to the priorities of energy projects. However, experiences like those of the Cooperative Milesthe community Sustainable Taradell or the work of references like the Network for energy sovereignty and l ‘Energy poverty alliancegive valuable examples to consider.

Through a qualitative and participatory research, the document collects the Motivations, difficulties and opportunities Identified by people involved in energy communities in Barcelona. In addition, they are detected so much advantages as limitations current, and are presented Proposals arising from the same community tissue.

However, the work proposes to contribute to the collective debate on which Model of Energy Community We want for the city, putting in the center social justice and equity in access and participation.

The study is part of the lines of action of coópolis in the framework of the Social and Solidarity Economy (ESS), where energy communities become a key work spaceclosely related to other areas such as Cooperative housing, migrations or anti -racist struggles.

The report complete will be Available after submissionfrom 6 pm on May 27.
