Next Monday, February 23, 2026, at 6:45 p.m., the conference “The origins of theater in the West” will take place in the Sala de la Caritat of the Library of Catalonia, given by Xavier Albertí, actor, director and theater manager.

This conference proposes a journey to classical Greek and Roman theater and its decisive influences on contemporary theatre. It is the first of three sessions in the cycle “The history of the theatre, with Xavier Albertí”, a course that will allow you to get closer to the great theatrical currents that have shaped the scene to this day.

The cycle is organized by the Association of Friends of La Perla 29 and will take a journey full of connections between past and present, during which it will delve into three great theatrical traditions, from Antigone to Goldoni, from Molière to Oedipus or Eduardo de Filippo.

The other two sessions will take place at La Biblioteca Theater and will be “The great tradition of French theater” (Monday, March 23, at 7 p.m.), and “Italy! A unique theatrical adventure” (Monday, April 20, at 7 p.m.).

Although the three talks form a single course, they can be attended independently. Registrations, which are free, must be done session by session.

For the first session the places are sold out, but you can access it at waiting list.

For the second and third sessions of the cycle, the capacity will be up to 180 people, at the La Biblioteca theater and registrations will open from February 24.
