
Renaissance and Baroque art
Since January 2018 the new presentation of the Renaissance and Baroque Art Collection of the National Museum allows to discover under a new light about 250 works, including paintings, prints and drawings, sculptures and decorative arts, as well as ‘A bibliographic collection, which is a selection of the collection of 1,400 works from this period that the Museum has.
This new presentation increases the number of authors and exhibited works, from 130 to 250, and grows the space that houses them, a total of 1,313 m².
A collection to be discovered: unpublished works, new deposits and new attributions
The new presentation of the Renaissance Art Collection and the Baroque covers the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries and reaches until the beginning of the 19th century, a period of more than 300 years. The National Museum has carried out an in -depth review of the collection and brings to light the latest investigations. Unpublished works are presented, an important group of newly restored works, new deposits, and some new attributions are revealed.
Cambó and Thyssen collections integrated
The new presentation also allows the Cambó legacy visible and the Thyssenbornemisza collection, integrated into the rest of the collection. The integration of these two collections allows to re-evaluate the whole, the ties and the dialogue between the works are reinforced, and the possibility of contextualizing them is encouraged. In this way the visitor will be able to rediscover two very valuable collections that gain visibility without losing their unit.
