On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 5 pm, the presentation ceremony of the Year Maria Lluïsa Ponsa i Bassas, a composer, pianist and writer, who is celebrated to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth, will take place in the Caritat de la Charity.

The event will have the institutional welcome of the President of the Catalan Women’s Institute, Sònia Guerra López, and the director of the Library of Catalonia, Eugènia Serra i Aranda.

The curators of the year, Mònica Pagès i Santacana and Victoria Palma Barbany, will present the figure of Ponsa and the axes of the commemoration. Then the head of the Music Section of the Library of Catalonia, Rosa Montalt Matas, will take part. A musical performance by Marta Pons Garcia will close the event, who will also explain his vision of being a musician and woman today.

Maria Lluïsa Ponsa i Bassas (1875 – 1919) studied at the Emerald Academy Cervantes and was a disciple of Isaac Albéniz and Arthur Rubinstein. At the age of ten he went to Paris, a scholarship by the Barcelona City Council. He spent seven years and won the Grand Honor Diploma in the Paris Music Institute competition. Upon returning to Barcelona, ​​he performed at the Principal, Romea and Líric theaters with great success.

He founded the Barcelona Music Institute, where he taught music in a charity for creatures who could not pay them. He was a contributor to Female and Catalanmagazines that claimed the rights of women. As a writer, she won several awards at the Floral Games.
