Next Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 8:30 p.m., the public presentation of the Robert Gerhard Foundation, an organization created with the aim of disseminating the work of the Vallenc composer, and avant-garde Catalan music in general, will take place in the Sala de Llevant of the Biblioteca de Catalunya.

Robert Gerhard i Ottenwälder (Valls 1896 – Cambridge 1970) was a humanist composer, respected and admired everywhere for his involvement in the bravest vicissitudes of art and thought of his time. His work embraces a very extensive aesthetic arc, from nationalism linked to tradition to the first experiments carried out in the field of electronics, in connection with the world of mathematics and science.

Robert Gerhard’s association with the Biblioteca de Catalunya, as head of the Contemporary Music Section, was key to being able to organize the XIV Festival of the International Society of Contemporary Music in June 1936, just before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.

The president of the Robert Gerhard Foundation, Edmon Colomer, will take part in the presentation; the musicologist Oriol Pérez-Treviño; the mayoress of Valls, Dolors Farré; the poet Carles Duarte; the secretary of the Robert Gerhard Foundation, Xavier Muñoz Puiggròs, and Rosamond Roughton, executor of Robert Gerhard’s legacy.

The event will feature live musical illustrations by Miquel Villalba, Jordi Masó, Roger Padullés, Oriol Estivill and Daniel Ruiz.

The event will be led by the journalist and writer Xavier Bosch.

Free entry with limited capacity.

You must confirm attendance in this one form.
