On the occasion of the opening of Picasso Cyprus: Encounters with the Ceramics of the Mediterraneanthe Museu Picasso invites the MACBA Friends to a presentation session and a self-guided visit to the exhibition.
The display starts out from Picasso’s relationship with Cypriot antiquitieswhich the artist discovered through European museum collections and specialist publications of his day. The visit offers a reflection on how Picasso assimilated formal and symbolic features of the ancient art of Cyprus, paying special attention to the hybridisation of styles and the distinctively expressive nature of these pieces.
The exhibition presents works from museums and collections around Europe, with a significant presence from the collections of the Museu Picasso Barcelona and the Department of Antiquities in Cyprus.
