WHAT IS PHOTO ACTION?

Understood as a form of symbolic guerrilla warfare, the photographic action bursts into the urban space – this stage where the city projects our desires and contradictions – to open cracks and activate new ways of looking, thinking and imagining reality.

Located halfway between the image, the space and a specific social and cultural context, photographic action is the result of a collective process in which critical thinking, research, documentation, visual creation and social activism are intertwined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE WORKSHOP

The aim of the workshop is to develop a photographic intervention collective in the public space, based on the ideas, experiences and views of the participants. At the same time, we seek to encourage a critical look at the contemporary uses of photography and its relationship with social reality.

We will work with methodologies that help us get to the essence of ideas, beyond fads, trends or prefabricated formulas. In the practical part, you will experiment with materials, concepts and strategies to create photographic interventions, build the narrative that sustains them and think installations that expand the limits of what is strictly photographic.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

This workshop is aimed at photographers and photographers, as well as anyone interested in exploring photography as a tool for intervention in public space. No prior technical knowledge is required: what is essential is the willingness to think and work in a group, experiment and participate from a critical perspective.

WHO TEACHES THIS WORKSHOP?

The workshop is taught by Oriana Eliçabedocumentary photographer and cultural agitator. He has been a member of the Enmedio collective since its foundation and, since 2012, he has been coordinating the TAF workshops! (Photographic Action Workshop), a space for continuous training and experimentation within the collective.

Between 1995 and 1999 he lived and documented the Zapatista uprising in Mexico as a correspondent for Agence France-Presse (AFP). He has been part of different art and activism collectives such as Las Agencias, Yomango, and has developed an extensive career in documentary photography and social action.

Among his projects stand out Lesbian Mothers, Global Movement, #efecteGEZI, Familiarize and the documentation of the popular revolt in Argentina in 2001 and its consequences. His work has been published and exhibited both nationally and internationally.
