Performance by Saul Williams and Jokkoo | Activity

We close the Black Urbanities project with a unique collaboration between slam poetry pioneer Saul Williams and the artistic collective Jokkoo, key references in contemporary creation.

A poet, musician, actor, and pioneer of spoken word, Saul Williams has redefined the genre by drawing on Black political thought and its struggles, ancestral African spirituality, and futuristic imagination. With the same subversive intent, the Barcelona-based collective Jokkoo—rooted across the African continent—challenges genre boundaries and explores the possibilities of art as a tool for resistance and affirmation of Afro-diasporic communities. As the closing event of Black Urbanities, we celebrate through word and sound the vitality of Pan-African culture and its global diasporas today.

MACBA Thirty

We celebrate Year Thirty of an infinite MACBA that projects the future as a space for review and possibility: of taking up what was left unfinished, updating what needs it and projecting anew everything that can still be transformed.
