
‘Opera Catalunya’ is committed to the power of Wagner and the classics
The Opera A Catalunya Foundation (FOC) has presented in the framework of the 2025-26 program that adds 63 performances and consolidates the project as the company with the most territorial implantation of the State. Four major operatic titles, a firm commitment to national talent and a consolidated territorial network make up the axis of a cycle that will reach 13 Catalan cities and will start on October 15 with Figaro’s wedding of Mozart.
A Wagner for the first time
The big news of the season is the entrance to the repertoire of an opera of Richard Wagner. The wandering Dutchmanwhich can be seen between the end of November and the beginning of December in Sabadell, Barcelona, Reus and Vic, is defined by the artistic director of the fire, Jordi Torrentslike the pearl of the season: “We have dared to Wagner and it will be a montage with very powerful music and a different set, with visual proposals and even artificial intelligence.”

The production will have the stage direction ofEmilio López and the musical of Josep Planells Schiaffinoboth debutants in the cycle, and will gather a cast headed by Maribel Ortega and José Antonio Lópezwith names like Carlo Colombara, José Ansaldi, Elisabeth Gillming and Jorge Juan Morata.
Classics of the repertoire
The season will open with a new production of Figaro’s weddingdirected stage by Miquel Gorriz and musically for Daniel Gil de Tejada. After four performances at the Faràndula Theater in Sabadell, the title will turn around 12 cities in the circuit. Already in 2026, the cycle will be completed with two successful repositions: Rule of Bellini (February-March) and The Traviata of Verdi (April-May), with stage direction of Carles Ortiz.

In total, the regular season will offer 49 functions in 13 cities: Sabadell, Barcelona, Cornellà, Figueres, Girona, Granollers, Lleida, Manresa, Reus, Sant Cugat, Tarragona, Vic and Viladecans. For the first time, all the titles will be available in the Atlantis of Vic, as well as the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Fortuny Theater in Reus.
A consolidated and growing project
The opera season in Catalonia also involves consolidation in the number of functions and territorial impact. The theater of La Faràndula de Sabadell, the epicenter of Catalan operatic production, will host 21 functions throughout the year, strengthening the role of the city as a pole of creation and operatic dissemination.

The data and the evolution of the public endorses the model: in just three years, viewers have grown from 20,000 to more than 45,000. In the words of Torrents, “we are committed to artistic quality and a model of proximity that makes opera a shared experience throughout the territory”.
