Lulú returns to the stage – Revista Teatre Barcelona


From March 3 to 25, 2026, every Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 p.m., the Co. Roberto G. Alonso recovers one of his most emblematic montages, Lulú, first nightin the Sala Versus Glòries. The replenishment is part of the company’s 30th anniversary and is part of the programming of the Metropolitan Dance 2026.

An expressionist myth revisited

Released on June 6, 2000 in Sitges International Theatrethe show starts from the character created by Frank Wedekind at the end of the 19th century. The company revisits this magnetic figure to delve deeper into the desires and thoughts that society hides under hypocrisy: what is often labeled as perversion or taboo. The piece presents a Lulú who does not seek redemption or excuses: she shows herself as she is, given over to desire and sensuality, and challenges the moral limits imposed by society.

The proposal incorporates an aesthetic linked to German expressionism, with visual references that can refer to the work ofEdvard Munch, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner or Emil Nolde. This approach places Lulú in a universe of disorder, tension, and builds a figure associated with eroticism and mystery, which focuses on the boundary between life and death.

Thirty years of a language of its own

Founded in 1995, the Cia. Roberto G. Alonso develops his activity in the field of contemporary dance in Catalonia and the State. His work combines movement and drama in proposals aimed at both adult and family audiences. Throughout its history, the company has dealt with issues such as feminism, gender identity, ecology and harassment, among others.

Lulú, first night starts from an original dramaturgical idea of David Planawith choreography and direction by Roberto G. Alonsoand now returns as a key piece for this anniversary.
