On the Preservation, Organization and Activation of Documentary Memory

We propose to Discover the Documentary Heritage preserved in the Macba ArchiveA set of documents and publications shown to the public at exhibitions and activities that representation an essential reference to research in the fidel of contemporary art.

This exclusive Visit for Macba Friends Will Be Led by Marta Vega, Head of the Research and Documentation Center (CED). A Chance to Explore the Essential Work that Sustains in Large Part of Discourse and Knowledge About Contemporary Art: The Preservation, Organization and Activation of Documentary Memory.

During the Visit We will finish out How this heritage is used, how it is decided what to preserve and how access is given to the documentation, understanding the museum as a critical, knowledge-produce institutions. Marta Vega Will Share Examples of Unusual Documents and Projects in Which The Archive Has Played a Key Part, Allowing Us to Think About The Role of Archives in the Construction of the History of Contemporary Art.

The Macba Ced Is a Living Space, Home to Holdings and Collections of Inormous Importance to Understand Contemporary Art Practice. IT Personal and Institutional Archives, Artists’ Publications, Posters, Photographs, Invitations, Leaflets, Specialized Bibliography and Audiovisual Documents. These materials, Kept Between the Archive and the Library According to Criteria of Conservation and Accessibility, Are Essential for Resarchers, Artists and Curators Intested in Exploring the Contexts, Processes and Discourses of recent Art.

Head of the Research and Documentation Center at MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, ​​Where she coordinates The Museum Archive and Library. She is a Graduate in Documentation and in History of Art from the University of Barcelona. She has been well on the staff at MACBA SINE 1994, HAVING ANPICIUSLY WORKED AT THE LIBRARY OF CATALONIA (Catalan National Library) and at the Library of the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC). She has taken part in variety professional events for documented centers and has contributed to the publications about art gallery museums “folding the exhibition, mela project” and “stories and threads: perspectives on art archives”.
