Les Juntes: an internationally awarded project
This week we celebrated great news for the Catalan housing cooperative: the recognition of the exceptionality of a project like The Boardsawarded with bronze in the World Habitat Awards 2025international awards promoted by UN-Habitat together with the Building and Social Housing Foundation (BSHF).
The Boards are one housing cooperative located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregatwith a innovative model: acquire private homes to communalize the land and shield it from speculation. In addition, it promotes spaces for self-organization and communal management among cooperative women.
The cooperative has the long-term usufruct of the homes, which guarantees its partners affordable and stable housing. This community structure takes reference from the Community Land Trusts of the Anglo-Saxon countries, community structures that aim to shield the land in the long term against speculation, and to offer stable and permanently affordable housing.
The award recognizes the Les Juntes project as an innovative cooperative and community housing initiative that guarantees the right to decent and accessible housing. It is one model example residential that places people as active subjects in the exercise of the right to housing.

It should be noted that Catalan housing cooperatives have been celebrated and awarded with the World Habitat international awards in association with UN-Habitat for some years now, being Civic Roofone of the entities deserving of recognition for its catalytic work for the growth of non-profit social housing both in Catalonia and elsewhere in Spain.
