‘Le Petit Cirque’ will wake up the senses … and the Greek 2025

The 49th edition of the Grec Festival in Barcelona It will begin with an absolute premiere that promises a real sensory bath at the Greek theater. Magic, circus, music and dance will be intertwined with the elements of nature within an innovative format that will appeal the sight, ear and even touch and smell. The most special night of the summer – the one that will start the Greek and almost six weeks of festival – is in the hands of two major creators of European circus and dance, Yoann and Marie Bourgeoisand the singer -songwriter Pomme ((Claire Pommet) that, as a result of his latest album, he wanted to explore new ways of performing live. To the show Le Petit Cirque they prolong together on stage Sisons (2024), a conceptual record that explores the seasons and the months of the year with four movements that include twelve songs.

As Pomme explains, “I wanted to get out of the box, move away from my creative habits and the formats expected in contemporary music in France, and look outward celebrating nature in its entirety.” After a first contact with the Bourgeois by the choreography of a music video, he found in this project the real opportunity to tune in: “ I love working with them to imagine a masterful, poetic show, aimed mainly at the little ones, but also to adults who are looking for magic and hope for the future, proposing a world where humans and nature can coexist. ”

For his part, the circus artist Youann Bourgeois and the dancer and choreographer Marie Bourgeois emphasize the uniqueness of the proposal because it is based on a unique work (Sisons), born of the desire to write to six hands and by the multidimensional and hybrid character of the material. “We talk about the passage of time, a relationship that fades, the powers beyond us, the natural elements in which we sometimes aspire to dissolve ourselves and the apprehension of our finitude,” they say.

To give shape to Le Petit Cirque The arrangements of the record for a string quartet have been adapted, and, following a character crossing seasons and ages, a circular scenery has been created – inspired by a circus track – that rotates offering different points of view. “We are melancholy people and the circus appeals to the children’s spirit and the popular imagination. The scene rotates as a rotating dish, allowing everyone to see the same object, but at different times. This game over time seems to us to be part of the DNA of the show.”

In addition to the musicians – all women – they will accompany Marie Bourgeois and Pomme on stage three acrobats which will delight the lovers of contemporary circus. The show, recommended from 8 years old, is aimed at all audiences.

The new Greek director, Leticia Martín Ruizhe emphasizes precisely that in the search for the inaugural show he had the desire to find a proposal “as universal as possible, that he could communicate with everyone and reflect the desire to represent the summer”. He adds: “When I saw the possibility that it was also an international co -production (with the naked ones of Fourvière de Lyon) with the names that are stagely unquestionable, I had the feeling that it was the right show.” Finally, he also points to the importance of giving visibility to the contemporary circus, as a discipline “increasingly present” on stage.

Perceptual immersion

Immersive quality is one of the founding principles of the piece and the sound universe will largely contribute to this experiential dimension. But not only will Pomme’s voice, the musical performance of the quartet and the spatialization of sound, the rotating track has original physical devices that will amplify natural phenomena such as inertia, centrifugal force or gravity. Video screenings and plastic installations will generate strong audiovisual moments and, however incredible, it will also accommodate the touch and smell with, they say, “the presence of the wind and a series of smells.” There will be virtually all the senses activating a wide perceptual variety.

With echo awareness

The project breathes a deep environmental restlessness. According to Pommet, it is motivated by the desire to “raise awareness of the younger generations of the need to protect the environment, seeking beauty, poetry, humor and magic in what surrounds us, and that we do not look enough often.” The goal is shared by Yoann and Marie Bourgeois, who say: “We find it urgent to frustrate this form of anthropocentrism everywhere and in the arts, and to reconnect with all our sensitivity to everything that is beyond.”

The return of Yoann Bourgeois

This will be the third time that Yoann Bourgeois visits the Grec Festival, after coming in 2018 with Mined and, by 2023, with Celui who tumpens. He is recognized as an artist committed to artistic development, in search of the decomparted approaches and artistic spaces. Thus, it conceives the creation of living art, radically multidisciplinary and innovative, attentive to its environment, its energy and its specificities.
