Humor and criticism at the new edition of the Escena Poblenou Festival
From October 17 to 20, the Poblenou district of Barcelona will become the scene of the Festival of Contemporary Creation Poblenou Scene. With the slogan “spread your wings”, this edition seeks to claim the positive spirit and optimism through a stage program rich in critical humor and quality artistic proposal.
After 23 editions, the festival continues to bet on a provocative and fun character, with shows that address themes such as memory, social criticism and community. The square in front of Can Felipa will be the core of the festival, a meeting space to share reflections and thoughts before and after the performances.
With a total of 24 proposals from 21 companies, the festival will include four pieces in the process of creation, a co-production and two artistic residencies. Highlighting its commitment to contemporary creation, Escena Poblenou accompanies artists in their creative processes, offering support through co-productions and residencies.
Leo Bassi, one of the highlights of the festival
Among the most anticipated moments, the return of Leo Bassiwho will celebrate 70 years of career at the Moral and Cultural Center of Poblenou. In addition, the Collective That Doesn’t Leave Here will present Hermaphrodites on horseback or the rebellion of desirea work that fuses documentary theater and science fiction to address intersexuality.
The program includes a varied offer of theatre, circus, music and family activities, with a special emphasis on female creativity. 70% of the shows are created by women or by predominantly female teams, reaffirming the festival’s commitment to gender equality.
As for the family audience, shows such as Turn me off I turn ona reflection on the responsible use of screens. Attendees will be able to enjoy shows in 12 different spaces in Poblenou, both in theaters and on the street.
The Escena Poblenou Festival is also committed to the community, collaborating with various local entities to encourage participation and interaction with residents.
