How to make a round musical with just two actors and a piano

After a resounding success at the Gran Via in Madrid and after two seasons of good reviews, it arrives at the Teatre Muntaner Murder for twoperformed by Didac Flores i Mikel Herzog Jr. It is a humorous musical created by the Americans Kellen Blair i Joe Kinosianwhich premiered in Chicago in 2011 and on the scene off-Broadway in 2013. It is a fun and innovative show that has achieved a lot of relevance on an international scale. This new production, which arrives in Barcelona this December, has been adapted and directed by Zenon Recalde (The Lion King) and also with the musical direction of Gaby Goldman (Matilda, Billy Elliot i West Side Story).

Imagine a stage with only a grand piano and the intention of doing comedy, where two actors – tasked with playing fifteen characters – will lead you into the mystery that is hidden within the walls of a large mansion. A famous writer has been murdered and an aspiring detective finds this fatality a great opportunity to make a name for himself.

Dídac Flores, who changes characters with the same apparent ease as the Rosalia of musical style, he explains that he believes that the success they have had in Madrid is due to the fact that “it is a very different proposal, since Mikel Herzog Jr. and I do everything on stage, there is no scenography or sound effects. We are naked, as he says”. He also reflects that, in the end, it is a proposal that “comes from the United States and has already been a success in different countries”. He has no doubts about what the great challenge of this proposal has been: “combining many disciplines at the same time, such as acting, singing, playing the piano at a very high technical level and, in addition, dancing a little. Also finding a way to unite and integrate the fourteen characters I play”. And he also reveals a curiosity about the difficulty of playing the piano and speaking: “playing and singing is one thing, but playing and speaking at the same time has been quite a challenge, because the time of speech is another”.

With a plot that seems to come out of the mind ofAgatha Christiea piano concert like you’ve never experienced and characters so charismatic that you won’t forget, this show is one of those shows that you should watch having warmed up your hands beforehand, because you’ll definitely want to stay a long time clapping.
