HISTORICAL RELIEF IN THE MUSIC WORKSHOP

Last Friday, 12/12 at 12:12 p.m., a very significant event was held at the Byron Bookstore in Barcelona, ​​as part of the presentation of the commemorative book with which the Taller de Músics celebrated its 45 years of history. The meeting was much more than a simple editorial presentation and became a recognition of the figure of Lluís Cabrera, one of the founders and soul of the project.

In this context, Cabrera gave in president of the Taller de Músic Foundation in Joan Manuel Tresserrasuniversity professor, essayist, ex-counselor for Culture and member of the Advisory Board.

An act with great participation

More than 150 people filled the bookstore, including institutional, political and sector representatives. The event began with the presentation of the book, curated by John Thomaswhich includes texts by Lluís Cabrera and about forty people linked to the institution, as well as the presentation of the artist’s commemorative poster Frederic Amat.

The meeting featured the music of Luna Orleans, accompanied by Tània Renauwho put the final mark on the day.

Conversation about the present of the music sector

The central part of the event was the conversation between Lluís Cabrera and the specialized journalist Nando Cruzin which Cabrera shared some of the reflections contained in the book on the current situation of the music sector in Catalonia.

During the conversation he addressed issues such as:

• The role of the sector’s associations, which he described as “submissive and not very useful for the real interests and needs of musicians”.
• The lack of stable programming of live music in small and medium-sized private rooms, due to the absence of tax benefits and subsidies that allow musicians to be guaranteed decent conditions.
• The low curiosity of audiences to discover new music and talents.
• The difficulties of many artists to “break the glass ceiling” and develop their music freely.
• The lack of unity in the sector, which prevents progress in issues such as the Statute of the Artist, the culture of the club or the protection of dignified conditions.

Presentation of the new Patronage of the Taller de Músic

The second part of the event was dedicated to presenting the new Board of Trustees of the Taller de Músics Private Foundation, which will take over the management of the institution, including the educational, artistic and social areas.

Lluís Cabrera took on the role of honorary president, while Tresserras assumed the executive presidency. In his speech, Tresserras affirmed that “the only programmatic point of the new Board of Trustees is the maintenance of the spirit, the objectives, the values ​​and the way of doing things that have characterized the Workshop”.

Likewise, he stressed the need to ensure the connection between the classroom and the stage, as well as the commitment of the administrations to the task of the Workshop “without interference in its functioning”.

The Board of Trustees incorporated relevant profiles and closely linked to the Workshop, such as Santiago Auserón, Joan Albert Amargós, Miguel Poveda, Conxa Parramonamong others.
