Gastronomy is the protagonist of the new edition of “De Xarxa Llull al món” – Actualitat Detall


On Monday, March 16, gastronomy will be the nerve center of the new edition of “From Xarxa Llull to the world”, the online activity organized in collaboration with students and professors of Catalan studies abroad in order to spread Catalan culture throughout the Xarxa Llull, and beyond.

The activity will take place at the headquarters of the Ramon Llull Institute in Barcelona, ​​and can be followed live through the IRL’s YouTube channel. It will start at 18:00 with a presentation of Josep-Anton Fernandezdirector of the Language Area of ​​the IRL. This will be followed by an interview with the expert professor of Catalan cuisine Rose Song. Then there will be a round table on the relationship between gastronomy and literature. The conversation, moderated by Paula Moléswill have the interventions of the chefs Carlota Claver, Pau Sintes i Solar Seaand will be structured in three thematic blocks introduced by videos where students of Catalan will read literary texts linked to gastronomy.

The conversation will be structured around three thematic axes. Firstly, the gastronomic diversity of Catalan culture will be addressed from a fragment ofdown hereof Laia Viñasread by George O’Rourke i Tom Mastersstudents at the University of Cambridge. Next, traditional cuisine will be the focus of the second section, with the reading of a fragment of BoulderofEva Baltasarin charge of Bethan Burtonstudent at the University of Sheffield. Finally, the local product, the lexicon and gastronomic expressions will be treated from a fragment ofThe narrow streetof Josep Plaread by Abbie Kingstudent at the University of Manchester. After the debate and the moderator’s conclusions, there will be a summary of the cooking workshop that university students held with the chef from Menorca Pau Sintes. Finally, the writer Martí Sales will perform a recital based on texts worked on by students from the UK and Ireland.

The act is linked to centenary of Catalan Studies at the University of Liverpool and will have the participation of Catalan language and culture students from universities in the United Kingdom and Ireland. These universities are the following: University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, University of Cambridge, University College Dublin, Durham University, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, King’s College London, University of Manchester, Newcastle University, University of Oxford and University of Sheffield.
