Ramon Llovet i Miserol (Barcelona, ​​1917–1987) is a singular figure in 20th century Catalan painting. Self-taught and marked by early references such as Antoni Clavé, he began in a figuration close to the humble landscapes of Barcelona. His language is profoundly transformed in the mid-1950s, when the discovery of Solana leads him to create disturbing and symbolic settings, inhabited by solitary figures that reflect a society wounded by war. The palette darkens, the textures intensify and Llovet experiments with his own techniques, such as the innovative use of plaster boards for engraving. From the sixties, the influence of Eastern thought, theosophy and pacifist currents lead his work to a new light. The compositions become more lyrical, ethereal and spiritual, with an almost mystical symbolism that defines his artistic maturity. This turn towards serenity and fullness of life will mark the last years of his career, consolidating a deeply personal pictorial universe.
