In 1601, in an expanding Barcelona, ​​the first cardboard giant is documented in the procession that the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi made to celebrate the Canonization of Sant Ramon de Penyafort. Today, 425 years later, we delve into the long history of the Giants of the Pi, compiled thanks to the research carried out over the last decade in the Parish Archive of Santa Maria del Pi, but also to numerous contributions from people who have collaborated and reconstructed the adventures of these much-loved pieces. Four figures who have survived wars, hardships, abandonment and prohibitions, becoming the living essence of the party from remote times and who still excite us when they go out on the street.
