Exhibition “Get on board!” | Gencat Cultural Agenda
The camera always offered game possibilities since its birth, almost two centuries ago. Thanks to this device, you could have the illusion of living in a palace, to fly or navigate. Only people with money could be portrayed in shipsand not always, because the movement of the water made photography difficult.
For the people in the street, the solution came from the hands of humble professionals—men and women—who traveled through the villages during the major festivals with a handmade camera, a decorated cloth and some props (a piece of painted wood that simulated a small boat). These people were known as you minute themsince they took photographs “on the minute” and delivered them to the clientele after an instant. Also, the whole process took place in full view of the public, which added interest and fun to being photographed.
The exhibition presented recreates some of the images preserved by the Maritime Museum of Barcelona so that, with the current mobile devicesthe public can continue playing.
You can check more information about the exhibition “Get on board!” on the website of the Maritime Museum.
