EVENINGS IN THE GARDEN

RAQUEL CRUCES, CANTIRIS D’ARREL AND ELECTRICA

Thursday, July 23 at 7 p.m

By Raquel Cruces (@vozpercusiones)accompanied by the electric strings of Cesc Fornos

Raquel Cruces’ repertoire contains popular songs from the Iberian Peninsula and both archipelagos sung in Portuguese, Galician, Castilian and Catalan (Valencian and Balearic) with her own re-arrangements. These pieces are all anonymous, belong to the collective memory of a people, and have traveled by oral transmission, some traceable since the Middle Ages.

The live music he shares is a deployment of emphasis, intensity, fragility and the creation of emotional atmospheres: from the intimacy of lullabies or chants for the dead, to dance floors, often reinterpreted under more contemporary aesthetics.

Handmade goatskin tambourines to accompany the songs of our grandmothers, which are intertwined with unpredictable vocal rhythms and the melismas and twists of their strings influenced by other songs of a more distant African matrix, modern styles such as jazz and folk songs from other continents.
