
Diversity in energy communities in Barcelona
Barcelona works to move towards a Sustainable and community energy transitionbut there is still a way to go in subjects such as diversity and intersectionality. This is one of the main conclusions of the report ‘Diversity in energy communities in Barcelona: diagnosis and challenges’ We presented on May 27 and focuses on energy communities as a key tool for the promotion of social and solidarity economics (ESS).
The pioneer study in this area aims to make a first prospecting on As are being addressed – or stopping – the issues linked to diversity (gender, origin, administrative or functional situation) and the intersectionality Within these communities. Despite the fact that these topics are often relegated to the background, inspirational experiences are beginning to be generated on the table the need forIncorporate these perspectives in a structural way.
The report drinks from referents such as the Network for Energy Sovereignty, the Alliance Against Energy Poverty or Projects such as Som Communities, and takes as an example Local Experiences such as the Sustainable Taradell Energy Community. He also sets parallels with the work done in the field of cooperative housingas the study promoted by the Dynamo by 2022 on inclusivity.
The work identifies two main lines of analysis: on the one hand, the shortcomings and needs current of energy communities in relation to diversity; on the other, the Challenges and proposals which arise to make them more accessible, participatory and representative of the social reality of Barcelona.
Through interviews and debate spaces with participants of various initiatives, the study has been able to collect motivations, alliances and detected barriers. This participatory process has served to build a frame of collective reflection and lay the foundations for a A model of inclusive energy communities, which not only transform energy, but also social relationships and mechanisms of power.
The report also contains a series of concrete and practical proposals to strengthen the participation of infrared groups and guarantee an energy transition that puts people – all – at the center.
