The creation of Joan Miró would not be properly understood without the large number of drawings, sketches, annotations and preliminary studies that he retained over the years. Miró’s methodical character finds an ideal instrument, always available to the drawing, which makes it possible to retain and visualize embryonic ideas. In some cases, the works are faithful transpositions of the preparatory drawings, with references to colors, sizes, title or technique. Support, however, is not always a conventional role. Sometimes an ad stimulates irony or newspaper article provides a context or set design to figures and signs, evoking how distressing or bleak could be representation. Others are simply a fragment used to capture a fleeting mental connection. The support never disguises what is: a ticket, a sheet of an agenda or a calendar, the reverse of a typed letter or the fence of an envelope. Then the handling of Miró contradicts the printed day on the boot page of the agenda, the typed text that is transferred to it asks to be read and so that it can glimpse the folds.
