cooperativism and female leadership with roots – Athenaeum
November 19 is International Women’s Day, a day to recognize and highlight the key role women play in the creation of economic projects with social value. A role that, in the field of cooperatives, often becomes a driver of community transformation, sustainability and innovation.
In the social and solidarity economy, many women not only undertake, but do so from a collective approach rooted in the territory. Especially in the rural world, where they lead initiatives linked to agroecology, culture, care, sustainability and education, breaking stereotypes and opening new paths in contexts of depopulation or unequal access to resources.
In this framework, an entity that forms part of the Baix Llobregat Cooperative University. l‘Agora of the Earth promoted a series of videos to give voice and face to female entrepreneurs from different territories. The objective: to make real initiatives visible, with transformative impact, and to show how cooperatives can be a powerful tool to generate autonomy, network and life in small and medium-sized municipalities.
Through this audiovisual format, testimonies are collected from women who have launched their own or collective projects, often in rural environments, from a feminist, communal and rooted perspective. They are voices that speak of difficulties, but also of resistance, mutual support and creativity. And that they remind us that transformation starts from below and collectively.
From the Ateneu Cooperatiu del Baix Llobregat we want to take advantage of this 19N to claim the importance of women in the social economy. Because the future of entrepreneurship will be cooperative or it won’t be. And because it is necessary to continue creating spaces where female leadership is recognized, sustained and shared.
