Next Thursday, January 30, at 8.30 pm, a concert in tribute to the Mexican pianist Alicia Muñiz will take place in the Llevant room of the Library of Catalonia.
The French Chapel of Barcelona, directed by Cecilia Velázquez, will participate; the singers Karen Gardeazábal (soprano) and Augusto García (bass); the pianists Pia Zanca and Carlos Reyes, and the set of Mexican chapel strings. The repertoire will be focused on Mexico and musicians near the teacher Alicia Muñiz, such as Rodolfo Halffter and Faustino Velázquez. It will also include pieces by the composer and musicologist Miquel Querol i Gavaldà (1912 – 2022), who was the husband of Muñiz.
Alicia Muñiz was a professor at the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico, where she was chosen to replace the teacher Rodolfo Halftter in the class of music analysis. He moved to Catalonia, where he currently resides and continues the task of disseminating the studies and musical publications of his husband, whom he sent in 2002, and in which he took an active part. He has donated to the Library of Catalonia of the Miquel Querol i Gavaldà collection, following the will expressed by Master Querol. Lately, he has also started donating his personal fund.
