Next Thursday, January 30, at 8:30 p.m., a concert in tribute to the Mexican pianist Alicia Muñiz will take place in the Sala de Llevant of the Biblioteca de Catalunya.

The Choir of the French Chapel of Barcelona, ​​directed by Cecilia Velázquez, will participate; the singers Karen Gardeazábal (soprano) and Augusto García (bass); pianists Pia Zanca and Carlos Reyes, and the Capella Mexicana string ensemble. The repertoire will be focused on Mexico and musicians close to teacher Alicia Muñiz, such as Rodolfo Halffter and Faustino Velázquez. It will also include pieces by the composer and musicologist Miquel Querol i Gavaldà (1912 – 2022), who was Muñiz’s husband.

Alicia Muñiz was a teacher at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico, where she was chosen to replace teacher Rodolfo Halftter in music analysis classes. She moved to Catalonia, where she currently resides and continues the work of disseminating the studies and musical publications of her husband, whom she widowed in 2002, and in which she took an active part. He has made a donation to the Library of Catalonia from the Miquel Querol i Gavaldà fund, following the will expressed by Maestro Querol. Lately, he has also started donating his personal fund.
